Renaldo H. Pearson, of Detroit, Michigan, passed away August 15, 2020, at the age of 63 after a long battle with kidney disease.
Renaldo was born in Detroit on January 31, 1957 and grew up with his siblings, Lurita White (deceased), Ollivette, Eric (deceased), and Vinard. His parents. Ollie and Mildred (both deceased) were from East St. Louis, Illinois and moved to Detroit for work at the automotive plants. Ollie worked his way up from a hylo driver to an electrical journeyman during his forty years at the Chrysler Corporation. Mildred was a cosmetologist and together they were able to purchase their home and the accompanying corner lot in Southwest Detroit for their family to enjoy.
Renaldo attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Chadsey High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1974 and received his honorable discharge in 1976 after marrying Dawn L. Keno. During their 11 marriage, CeCelia Monique Simone Pearson-Shabazz (Gabe) and Renaldo H. Pearson, Jr., were born. During their marriage, he received his Associate of Arts Degree from Wayne County Community College.
Later, from a relationship of eight years with Cassandra Pratt, three children were born, Aaron Christopher (deceased), Corey Leron, and LaQuanda Nicole. As his children matured, he later found companionship for 19 years with Vanessa Stanley. Vanessa was his devoted confidant and caregiver.
Renaldo was an 18 year member of Roofers Local 149 where he worked for various roofing companies with his long time friend, Adrian, until 2003.
After years of being a roofer, Renaldo turned to other jobs including work at the United States Post Office and Metropolitan Airport. When his health began to fail him, he took an early retirement in 2012. Unfortunately, his relaxation time was frequently interrupted by numerous operations and long hospital stays. Fortunately, he had his companion, Vanessa, by his side to help him navigate the difficult times and her grandsons, Marty and Jaden, to listen to his never-ending gems of advice afterwards.
At other times, Renaldo loved to putt and play golf at the neighborhood park and nearby golf courses. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing. When at home he watched endless hours of news programs and enjoyed sharing news stories and his strong opinions on the topic of the day. Debates and advice were a regular part of his conversation.
He frequently spent time at the gaming tables of the Motor City Casino. When he was not gaming, he enjoyed cooking for his family and was often called “The Grill Master”. His barbeque ribs and potato salad were enjoyed by family every summer holiday and birthdays. Mmmm, mmmm good!! He, his cooling skills and his delicious meals will be missed.
Renaldo was the proud grandfather of Kishi, Hannah, Saje, Liam and Lucas. He enjoyed their visits and frequently rode the Detroit-based kids up and down the backyard ramp on his motorized scooter.
