Ada
Johnson
August 17, 1923 – April 19, 2026
Ada Johnson
Ada Johnson was born August 17,1923 in Weleetka, Oklahoma to the parents of Nathan Horn and Ora Slaughter-Horn. She was the 7th child of 8 children of which 7 preceded her in death. She grew up and attended school in Clearview, Oklahoma.
Ada accepted the Lord at an early age and remained faithful to the end. She went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 19, 2026.
At a very young age, a determined Ada moved to Detroit, Michigan with her sister Nellie, where she met and married Asbury McGarrity. To this union was born two sons, Arvie Lanier McGarrity and Richard Lee McGarrity.
Then in the late 1940's, Ada met and married the love of her life, Robert “Baby” Johnson. To this union was born a daughter, Esther Nell Johnson. Their everlasting love lasted over 40 years until Baby’s passing in 1989.
Ada centered her life around her family, but she was also proud of her career as a Domestic Worker, dedicating 50 plus years of service until retirement in 1990.
Ada was a nurturer who had the ability to easily provide care, support, and a safe environment for others. She loved to cook, sew and enjoyed spending quality time with her family and extended family, playing cards and drinking her favorite beer, Budweiser. Ada enjoyed playing the lottery with her and Baby’s favorite number, 4501 and could tell you without checking the lottery book, what number something played for. She loved her sisters Dolena, Nellie and Louise dearly and often reminisced about them. Ada had the greatest sense of humor especially when talking about her childhood. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and all of their accomplishments.
Ada was the epitome of strength and determination. Her feisty personality left a mark on all that she came in contact with. Even at 102, she could still give you a run for your money.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Esther, daughter-in-law, Gwen, grandchildren, Richard Jr., Michelle, Shaneen (Richard), Kevin (Kelly), Angela (Eric), Andre (Zuri) and Nicole, 17 great grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
