On Wednesday, October 7th, 2020, Kiros passed away suddenly at his home in Detroit, MI, due to natural causes (not Covid-19 related).
Kiros was born to Weizero Abrehet Kidanemariam and the late Ato Afeworki Hambir in Himbirti, Eritrea. Kiros was the second child to his parents and the young family moved to Asmara to join their father. Kiros attended Godaif Middle and Elementary School and graduated with the first model preparatory class of Santa Famiglia High School. After a brief stay at the College of Santa Famiglia (later Asmara University), Kiros moved to the United States, settling in the State of Michigan, where he lived for five decades. After earning his degree from the School of Medicine at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, he lived and practiced medicine in Detriot for decades.
Kiros had a passion for knowledge and was an avid reader of the Sciences, Literature, and Current Affairs. In his teenage years, he enjoyed tinkering with radios and enjoying listening to rock-and-roll. He preferred reading and listening to the radio to watching TV, but he was a fan of the TV show Sanford and Son. Kiros has always been passionate about his extended family and friends, remembering minute details of occasions.
Kiros is survived by three children (Asmara, SauRana, and Awet), four grandchildren, eight siblings, several nieces, nephews and cousins, his mother, and an uncle. He was preceded in death by his father, several cousins, uncles and aunts, Cathy Brock (Awet’s mother), and his older brother and best friend, Fessehazion.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 24th, 2020, followed by interment in Kiros’ adopted home of Detroit.
