Albert William Harris, Jr.

Albert William Harris Jr. loved Jazz. Yes indeed, he loved all types of music, but Progressive Jazz was his favorite. He had an immense collection of albums; and many a summer he would spend in Downtown Detroit at the Jazz Festival.

Alberts life began October 17, 1921, in Iuka, Mississippi.  His Loving parents were Albert William Harris Sr. & Nellie Sloan Ford.  Albert moved to Detroit, Michigan, with his father at the age of 10.  But he would regularly return to Mississippi throughout the years because Iuka was always home to him.

In the late 1940’s he met and married the love of his life Mattie Mozella Favors. During their marriage they had 2 amazing sons, David Anthony Harris and Stephen Allen Harris, who have proceeded their father in death.  Albert and Mattie were married for over 50 years before she joined our heavenly father in 2001.

During Alberts life he was an Army Veteran during WWII.  He began his service in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946. 

Ford Motor Company was lucky to have Albert for 25 years as a Master Welder.  After his retirement, he kept active by attending trade school and became a certified heating and cooling technician.  Albert loved to learn and encouraged his family to never stop learning.  Albert has helped so many over the years friends and family alike.

Although Albert was quiet, if you ever took the time to sit and talk with him for more than 5 minutes, you know he was actually a chatterbox.  He would talk for hours, sharing a century of knowledge and advise.

Not only was Albert a great man, but he was also a great friend, husband, uncle and father.  Where his light really shined was when he became a grandfather.  He was not your average grandfather, he poured into his beautiful granddaughters, Malinda Anita Harris-Williams and Loraine Stephanie Young, with every fiber of his being.  When you look at them, you will see all aspects of him.  In the Alberts Century of life, he not only influenced his granddaughters, but he blessed his third and fourth generations too.  His great-granddaughters, Lauren Ashley and Jess Autumn-Marie, his great grandson, Dominic Alexander and his great-great granddaughter Emerson Adelina; they all have that twinkle and spunk just like Albert.

Albert W. Harris Jr. left this realm on April 1, 2023, at the beautiful age of 101 ½ years old.  What a majestic age and to have lived over a century is what we all aspire for in this life.  He leaves behind a legacy to be proud of and a host of family and friends that celebrate his life.
