Alice Brown Edwards, fondly known as "Sugar Pie," was born on May 18, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, and passed away after a life filled with Love, Faith, and Service and, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, in her hometown of Detroit. She was 96 years old.
Alice was the beloved third child of Viola Brown (Tea) and Albert Brown Sr. and grew up surrounded by the warmth and companionship of her siblings: Pattie, Albert (Sport), Viola E. (Sweetheart), and Dolores. Her early life was rooted in faith and community—she was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church, a spiritual foundation that remained with her throughout her life.
Alice dedicated much of her professional life to serving others. She began her career as an attendant for Detroit Public Schools, where she contributed to the well-being and development of countless students. Later, she continued her service at the James Lincoln Juvenile Detention Center, offering care and support to young people during critical moments in their lives. Her work reflected a deep commitment to nurturing those around her with patience and dignity.
Family was central to Alice’s life. She was a devoted mother and matriarch whose love extended across generations. She is lovingly remembered by Carl II, Dolores, Linda, Sandra, and William II. Though she mourned the loss of Glenn, Ronald, Steven, and Kathy during her lifetime, their memories remained close to her heart.
Alice’s legacy continues through a large and loving family that includes grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, each one cherishing the profound impact she had on their lives. Her presence brought strength and unity to those around her.
