Martha L. Allen
Martha Lee Allen was born to the union of Robert and Adele Petty April 9, 1936 in Paducah, Kentucky. Martha was one of 9 siblings whom all preceded her in death as did her mother and father. She was raised in Paducah, Kentucky where she attended and graduated from Lincoln High School with the honor of Salutatorian, June 1954. Martha worked at Bailey’s and Orange Cleaners in Paducah for several years. From early childhood she was a member of Harrison Street Baptist Church along with her sisters and brothers until she left Paducah.
On July 12, 1954 she married Henry Lee Glenn in Paducah, Kentucky. She separated from this union in 1957 and moved to Michigan to live with her Aunt Magnolia.
In 1964 when her sister Sarah died, she became the legal guardian of her nephews Charles and Jerry and raised them as her own. Martha eventually became divorced from Henry Lee and married her long-time sweetheart, of 30 years, Donald Allen on August 28, 1995. After a brief illness, Donald was called home in December 1995.
In 1999 Martha retired from Domestic Linen of Detroit. After her retirement she bought a condominium and moved to Southfield, Michigan until she was called home to glory, July 16, 2011.
She leaves to rejoice in her memories one uncle, Sam Petty of Paducah, Kentucky, one aunt, Magnolia Grant of Detroit, Michigan one stepdaughter, Venus Little of Southfield, Michigan and her Goddaughter Sheril Hurt of Ypsilanti, Michigan. She also leaves a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and companion and friend Joy, her Pekinese dog.
