Kevin LaMonte Ampey Sr. was born to Juan and Gertrude Ampey on February 23, 1968 in Detroit Michigan. He was the youngest of three children born to this union. He departed this life on Monday, May 24, 2021.
Kevin received his formal education in the Detroit Public Schools. He continued his studies at the Atterbury Job Corps Center where he studied Carpentry. He was also a Master Mason (33rd degree) of the Universal Masonic Brotherhood, Kings of Wisdom Lodge # 36.
Kevin affectionately known as “Bogie” was the recipient of countless sports trophies and awards. Throughout his teenaged years he played football on the Detroit’s City Team “Cobra’s”. In martial arts he ranked a junior black belt in Tae-Kwon Do.
He was an entrepreneur who owned and operated Major League Bar & Grille, Major Wireless and Fabulous Hair and Clothing. He ventured into music production with Hitman Records and finally found his passion for dog breeding and owning real estate.
He was an amazing father, a loving brother and friend. His smile and personality would light up any room. No matter the occasion, he appeared on his own arrival time, dressed from head to toe rocking a stylish brimmed hat with the foot ware to match. Despite his tough exterior he was an extremely caring man with a heart of gold. His sense of humor, classic jokes and infectious smile will be greatly missed. He was also a very optimistic man, who would always find the good in every situation. Even in this moment if he had any final words he’d say “IT’S A BEAUTIFUL THING”!
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents Juan and Gertrude Ampey, his maternal grandparents, Walter and Nellie Little and his fraternal grandparents John and Thelma Ampey. Celebrating his life are his four children, Kevin II, Brittany, Koria and Kayla Ampey. Three grandchildren, Sean, Karter and Rhythm. His siblings, Derrick and Juana (Rene) Ampey-Smith, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.
Kevin will be deeply missed by his family and all those who were fortunate enough to be touched by his life.
