Obituary for James Armour II

James Armour was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 21, 1952 to Rudolph and Dorothy Armour. He was the second of six children. He was educated in the Detroit Public Schools, graduating from Northwestern High School in 1970.

He attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan where he played offensive tackle on Michigan’s world famous football team under Bo Schemblecher. James graduated from Michigan in 1975, but his love of football continued throughout his adult life. James was a diehard Wolverine fan and loved to entertain his friends and family at the Michigan home game tailgate and “beyond “ parties. James worked for the City of Detroit Parks and Recreation Department as a Supervisor and retired in 2009 after 34 years. His tenure as a City employee was marked by his passion for service, and he often stated public service was a noble calling. After retirement he continued serving the community as a tutor with Starfish Family Services, working with young people from elementary through high school age.

James married Joanne Dawley in 1981, who shared with him his passion for Michigan football, and outdoor activities, especially golf.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Joanne, brothers, Dennis and Rudolph (Tippy), sisters Carolyn, Denise, and Lorraine, nephews, Jason and Justin, nieces Elana and Angela , Aunt, Cora Mayfield, Uncle, Leroy Armour, and a host of other relatives and friends.
