If you asked her for a dollar, she’d give you two. If you needed help, she was the first to volunteer. If you needed to vent or a shoulder to cry on, she’d listen and cry for you. If you needed someone in your corner, she was there rooting for you. If you had a problem, it became her problem. She’d try to fix it even if you didn’t want her to.
What some might call stubbornness, was fierce determination. Barb rarely gave up. Having worked hard all her life, poor health forced her to leave a job she enjoyed though she was far from ready to retire. Frustrated by the health issues slowly stealing her independence, she insisted on doing a daily chore and visiting or shopping when she could.
Those activities meant using a wheelchair, a portable oxygen machine, and the pain of just getting in and out of a car.
Sociable and out-going, Barb made friends easily. Always ready to play cards, board games, or bingo, she liked to win but enjoyed the game, win or lose. Time spent with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was precious to her.
What some might call bluntness, was a lack of artifice. There was nothing phony about Barb. She didn’t hold back on her opinions or advice. True to herself, she always did what she thought was the right thing. Barb was a powerful force fueled by an unwavering love for her family and friends. “When we lose someone we love, we must learn not to live without them, but to live with the love they left behind” – Anonymous
