Obituary for
Oliver Baskin
Oliver Baskin, born July 16, 1923 to John and Blanche Baskin, is immortalized today. His body could no longer endure health and the Lord took him to His bosom and wrapped His loving arms around him on February 12, 2013.
Oliver Married Evelyn Wyatt in 1942. To this union was born his only son, John O. Baskin. Shortly there-after, Oliver was inducted into the United States Army.
Oliver returned to St. Louis, Mo and rekindled his friendship with Dorothy O’Neil in 1948. Oliver and Dorothy (who preceded him in death) were joined in holy matrimony on February 18, 1952. They settled together in Detroit, MI. Dorothy and her two daughters, Dorothea and Brenda O’Neil, joined Oliver and his son, John to become a close-knit family of five.
Oliver and Dorothy joined and attended for the next twenty years, Triumph Missionary Baptist Church. In 1976 they joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Oliver served diligently here as a member of the Trustee Board until hi health failed.
Oliver loved to play Bid Whist and listen to jazz music, after retiring from 39 years of service at Rockwell Axle Co.
He leaves to morn son: John (Gloria) Baskin (Justice, IL), daughters: Dorothea and Brenda (Detroit, MI), Alva Robinson (Detroit, MI), sister: Mary (Rodell) Ramsey (Detroit, MI) granddaughters: Wanda (Kim) Young (Hillside, IL) Monica (Bob) Jaderberg (Midlothian, IL) grandsons: John Baskin, Jr.(Chicago, IL) , Andre(Nicole) Ashford (Berkeley, IL), Elijah Parker (Detroit, MI), Grandson: Devantez Robinson (Taylor, MI) Granddaughters: Dasia and Ladae Robinson (Taylor, MI) Nephew: Jerry (Sharon) Baskin (Detroit, MI),God-daughters: Tina Winston (Detroit, MI), Jeanette (William) Tate (Battle Creek, MI), God-son: Paul Rusch (Detroit, MI), adopted son-in-law: Thaddeus Jones ( Westland, MI), among other relatives, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
