Obituary for Marie S. Boyd

Marie Stonedale Boyd was born on May 27, 1928 to William R. Hampton, Sr., and Nancy R. Hampton in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. She had one sibling, a brother, William R. Hampton, Jr. (Billie), who preceded her in death.

She graduated from Sewickley High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from
Morgan State College in 1952. She met Elder R. Boyd in 1953, and they were married on
September 11, 1954, enjoying 59 years together until her passing. Prior to starting a family she was a teacher in the Detroit Public Schools and a social worker for the State of Michigan. After many years as a homemaker, she later returned to work as an assistant librarian at the University of Detroit reference library where she enjoyed helping the students.

Marie accepted Christ at an early age as an active member of Triumph Baptist Church in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. She later joined St. Stephen AME Church and was active in the Loyal Hearts Club, Stewardess Board #1, The Emily E. Vernon Missionary Society, Vacation Bible School and the Church School. She especially enjoyed working in the Church School nursery and was also a Cub Scout Den mother. Marie took an active interest in her children and grandchildren’s education and extracurricular pursuits.

Marie leaves to cherish her memory, a loving husband, Elder; sons, Eric (Cassandra) of Detroit, Michigan; Ronald (Priscilla) of Kalamazoo, Michigan; and David of Detroit, Michigan. A niece, Diane Hampton Powell; a nephew, William R. Hampton, III; a great niece, Ryan Tabb; and grandchildren, Christopher and Jeremiah, and other relatives, friends and the St. Stephen AME Church family.
