My celebration of life journey began on June 27th 1954 born to the late Father Johnny Lee King and Mother Lillie Mae King.
My spiritual journey started at Universal Hagar Spiritual Church once a member and Sacred Sister and continued through to my final church Higher Power Missionary Baptist Church. My strong relationship with God and Jesus was a foundation for my life, health and strength.
My education/academic journey was through the Detroit Public School system and I graduated from Northern High School. I continued my education at Herman Keifer JTPA Program obtaining my License Practical Nursing degree, my Bachelors of Science in Health Administration from the University of Phoenix, and my Christian Education/Diploma from Sunday School Publishing Board/National Baptist Convention. I pursued a number of other academic and professional interest, courses and trainings. I enjoyed a fruitful career at the Detroit Medical Center/Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan and Oakwood Health System.
I had so many affiliations and passions that included the Order of the Eastern Star, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Gamma Phi Delta Sorority open by invitation open to women in all professions, the Red Hat Mermaid of the Red Hat Society and others. I enjoyed Gospel and playing my tambourine, R&B, Blues, Country and Western music. Next thing you know; you saw me dancing.
My legacy are my children Raazon, Priscilla, Gerri Ann, Christine. My Grandchildren Tyrell, Jasolyn, BreAnne, Wyatt, and Waylon and my Great Grandbaby August. They all knew I would have a special treat like a Sweet Potato Pie or Pound Cake in my kitchen for them. Everyone knew my Collard Greens and Dinner Rolls were the best in town and other delictibles.
I was part of the Big Four with my siblings Annie (Husband Edward), John, Pastor Dr. Anthony (Wife Toniya) and the Little Four Danny (preceded me), Pastor Michael (Wife Cynthia), Lawrence, Darlene (Husband Timothy) and I have a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
My sun did not set but my star got brighter on August 10th, 2022. My celebration of life will forever continue whenever you think of me. God Bless you; we love you.
Words can’t express the pain and tears. Your smile is on high though I wish it was here. Memories that will make us laugh and cry. Strong yet kind, not afraid to speak her mind. Loving yet fierce, or both at the same time. You were you and that’s what we’ll miss the most. A Great Mother, Nana Grandma, Great Grandma, Sister, Auntie Cousin and Friend Author Mr. Christopher Hawkins
