Brenda H. Lumpkin

July 25, 1946 — October 24, 2023

Brenda H. Lumpkin was born July 25, 1946, to the late Gordon Farmer and Ethel Farmer Fox in Fairmont, West Virginia. At age 3, she was given up by her mother, moved to Detroit, Michigan and raised by her aunt and uncle Charles and Berniece Lee, where she attended grade through high school.

 

While attending Northeastern High School, she was a member of the swimming and tennis teams. Later graduating in 1964.

 

Following her high school graduation, she moved back to Fairmont and worked for the state government. In 1966, she returned to Detroit where she began working for James H. Cole Home For Funerals.

 

While living and working in Detroit, that’s where she met and married her love, Joshua Lumpkin, where they had 4 beautiful children.  It was at this time she took a break from working outside the home, to stay home and continue raising and taking care of her young children. As her children became older and progressed through grade school, Brenda took a part-time job working for Detroit Public schools for several years as a noon-hour teacher’s assistant at Crary Elementary School.

 

In 1977, she returned to James H. Cole Home For Funerals where she continued her career in the business as a Notary and Insurance Claims Processor until her retirement in 2003.

Following retirement, Brenda returned to her home of Fairmont, WV as a permanent resident in 2004. She also served her community by frequently volunteering as support staff with Paralyzed Veterans of America, earning several Certificates of Recognition for her devotion to serving Veterans in her community.

 

The Lord called Brenda home to eternal rest on October 24, 2023, at home, while surrounded by her 4 loving children. She was 77.  

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Leroy Lee, Sr. & Berniece Phyllis Lee of Detroit, MI; brother, Richard Farmer of Fairmont, WV; sister, Hollis Cook of Fairmont, WV; sister Priscilla Ann Steed of Fairmont, WV; Charles Leroy Lee, Jr. of Detroit, MI; grandsons Maurice D. Savage II of Detroit, MI, Kevin D. Blanks of Fairmont, WV.  

 

She’s survived by her four children Phyllis D. (Tyrone) Moore of Fairmont, WV; Rae (Stephen) Omo-Ogboi of Detroit, MI, Dennis C. Lumpkin of Charlotte, NC; Linda Lumpkin (Eric) Lloyd of Hampton, VA; sister, Charleta D. Lee of Detroit, MI, brother Gordon Farmer of OH; grandkids Janell (Nathan) Nicholson, Ravon Lumpkin, Tyrone Moore Jr., Jeremiah Lumpkin, Jazmine Nicholson, Eriq Q. Lloyd, Josiah Lumpkin, Triston W. Lloyd; great-grandson Greyson R. Mitchell; niece and nephew Charice D. Brown - Rachar K. (Amanda) Brown; great-nephew Khalil M. Brown; cousin Delores Givans, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

A memorial service will be held for Brenda H. Lumpkin at James H. Cole Home for Funerals, Inc. located in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday, November 18th, at 3:00pm.

 

Her Interment will be at United Memorial Gardens located in Plymouth Michigan.
