Fred Arnold Burton
Fred A. Burton passed on from this life on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Henry Ford Village Health & Rehabilitation Center in Dearborn.
Fred was born on June 15, 1924 in Starkville, Mississippi as the only loving son of Jettie.High Marshall and James Clinton Burton. He was also the son of Marguerite Forbis Burton.
Fred's near 90 years on earth were dedicated to his family, church, community, public affairs and service. He served in the U.S. Navy as an Apprentice Seaman in 1943 and trained as a Quartermaster. He later studied at Wayne State University. He married the love of his life, Olive Elizabeth Milben Milburn on April 23, 1950.
Fred and Ollie played a pivotal role working with Father William Cunningham in the formation of Focus Hope. They were strong supporters of the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development. In the 1990's, Fred worked as the Congressional Liaison for the Rosa Parks Institute.
Fred retired from his position as Staff Supervisor with Michigan Bell Telephone Company in 1983. From 1983 to 2004 Fred served on the staff of U.S. Congressman John Conyers. He traveled to the White House meeting President and Mrs. Clinton, General Colin Powell and other dignitaries. His passion was helping the constituents of the congressman's district.
Fred is survived by his daughters, Tamara Burton Allen and son-in-law, Fred Allen Jr., Freda Burton Morrison Stanfield and son-in-law, Spencer Stanfield II. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jason
Morrison and wife, Mimi Morrison, Stefanee "Bobbi" Morrison, Spencer Stanfield III and wife, Tiffany Stanfield; also his sister, Flora June Burton Williams, brother-in-law, Elson Williams II; and his nephew, Elson Williams III. In addition, he is further survived by his beloved sister-in-law, Margaret P. Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Fred considered his first cousins, Lee Gates, Maxine Crenshaw and Carole Gathe, his sisters and Charles High his brother.
His wife, Olive and son, Fred Arnold Burton Jr. preceded him in death.
