Carol Ann Pangos, 64, of Detroit, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on October 31, 2025. Born June 10, 1961, in Berlin, Germany, she moved to Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1962 with her parents and brother. A devoted mother, beloved sister, aunt, and friend, Carol filled every room she entered with warmth, laughter, and fierce love.
Born to the George Panogos and late Helga Panogos, Carol grew up with a ready smile and a restless curiosity that carried her into a lifetime of friendships and adventures. In her younger years she loved to travel, savoring the freedom of the open road and the joy of discovering new places and faces. She took pride in her home crafts, especially crocheting — a quiet, creative gift she shared with family and friends, stitch by stitch, heart by heart. In her later year she really enjoyed watching Michigan win a National Championship and the Lions were her team she watched on Sunday and like everyone hoped they would get to a superbowl!
Carol's greatest pride and joy was her son, Andrew Hunter of Detroit. She loved and cherished Andrew with an unwavering devotion: his successes were hers to celebrate, his struggles hers to shoulder, and his laughter hers to treasure. Andrew was the center of her world; she nurtured him, encouraged him, and taught him by example what it means to love fiercely and to stand tall. Her love for him will continue to live on in the stories he tells, the traditions they shared, and the countless small, meaningful ways she shaped his life.
She is survived by her son, Andrew Hunter of Detroit, MI; her brothers George Panogos of San Diego, CA and Raymond Panogos of Springfield, MA; her nephew Danny Panogos of Springfield, MA; and Jeneé Hunter, whom she loved as a daughter. Carol was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved brother Robert "Bobby" Hunter.
Those who knew Carol remember her as a firecracker: bold, spirited, and full of mischief yet always loving hard and fiercely loyal to those she held dear. She delighted in connecting with others, whether through a shared cup of coffee, a comforting crochet gift, or a candid conversation that left you feeling seen and better for it. Her presence was a gift; her laughter, quick wit, and generous heart brightened countless days.
Carol will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to know her. Her memory will be kept alive through Andrew and the many lives she touched. In the small rituals, the warm stories, and the traditions she loved, Carol's spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who loved her most.
A private gathering will be held by the family to honor Carol's life. Those wishing to remember her are encouraged to share a favorite memory, a photo, or a small act of kindness in her name ways to keep Carol's love and light shining in the world she cherished.
