Obituary

Carolyn A Kimball (Steger) was born November 06, 1940 in Detroit, MI. She was the eldest of 5 children from the union of Lilly & Gordon Steger. 

Carolyn graduated from the High School of Commerce in 1959. Afterwards, she was employed by Awrey Bakery-where she was the first Black salesperson in the Tireman store. 

June 24, 1961 she was united in marriage to George E Kimball. They had 3 children and later adopted a fourth child. At the time of marriage they enjoyed Air Force military life in England, Massachusetts & South Carolina before returning to Detroit in 1966. 

Additional employment included being a teller for Detroit Bank & Trust/Comerica Bank. Next, she was a business owner with a home daycare. Following that; employed by Lord & Taylor Dearborn department store-first as a sales associate, then as a credit lead where she was awarded multiple Diamond Star Awards. In retirement Carolyn volunteered at Trinity St Marys Hospital. 

Carolyn was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church where she was baptised and received sacraments. Previous to that Carolyn attended Trinity AME Church where she was a member of the Souls of Trinity Choir. 

Carolyn was known for her loving smile and warmth. She loved a good laugh. Carolyn enjoyed her family, friends, reading & travel. She was a fan of Johnny Mathis & Reba McEntire. Her actor crush was for Sam Elliott. Carolyn loved teacups and light houses. 

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by daughter Carmen Kimball; a brother Raymond Steger and sister Jacqueline Brown; additionally, a favorite cousin Theodore Jackson. 

Carolyn leaves to mourn her husband George of 65 years; daughter Denise Hasty (Kenneth); sons Christopher Kimball (Angela) & Derek Kimball. Grandchildren: Jessica, Jasmine, Derek, Darius, Christopher & Daisja. Great grandchildren Santana & Samuel. Carolyn also leaves to mourn- 6 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild; sisters Barbara Williams & Brenda Willis; and a host of nieces, nephews & friends. Carolyn also leaves her beloved cat Oscar. 

Carolyn had 2 associations dear to her heart: Detroit Goodfellows/Old Newboys Goodfellows Fund; Michigan Humane Society. Donations can be provided to either in lieu of flowers.
