Catherine Young (affectionally known as “Shorty”) was born on February 14, 1934 in Pace, Mississippi to the late Edward Hall &Ellen Hall. She was the youngest child of ten, all siblings preceded her in death and they are all now joyfully reunited on the other side.
Catherine accepted Christ at an early age and worshipped at Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church (Detroit). Her christian values were evident in the warm, loving and non-judgmental way she cared for her family. She was well known for expressing her unconditional love through cooking and preparing large meals where EVERYONE was welcome. There was always a seat for you at her table.
Educated in Mississippi & Detroit Public Schools, Catherine moved north to Detroit in the early 1950's, where she would meet her one true love, Clarence Young. They married in 1954 and shared 57 years together until Clarence was called home in April 2011. From their union came two daughters, Margie and Vanassa. The family was made complete by Clarence’s eldest daughter the late Graci eLounds (Shorty’s “Bonus Baby”).
A hard-working woman both inside and outside the home,Catherine was a proud Dietary Aide at Bon Secours Hospital, retiring in 1996 after more than 20 years of service.
Catherine loved spending time with family, hosting large holiday gatherings, listening to B.B. King, watching trash talk shows like Steve Wilkos, and laughing at the silly antics of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her devoted daughtersMargie and Vanassa; three grandchildren, Deron Sr., Daniel Jr.,and Danielle; four great-grandchildren, Deron Jr., Isha Lynne,Marcel, and Kree; one great-great-grandchild, Braylen; six bonus grandchildren, Audrey, Angela, Tonnetta, Nicole, Edward, and Elleanor; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
