Linda Cheers

On November 22, 1957 in Chatham, Virginia, the late Averett Albert Morrison and the late Louise Marie Davis was blessed with a daughter whom they named Linda Carol Morrison. She was the third eldest child of twelve children. She had eight brothers and three sisters. She was preceded in death by two of her brothers; William and Douglas Morrison.

Linda was raised in Penhook, Virginia until she was eight years old. Her family moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and shortly after to Detroit, Michigan. She received her education from both the Detroit Public Schools and she graduated from the Pittsburgh Public Schools in 1975.

In February 1976, in Pittsburgh, PA, she was blessed with her first child, her daughter, LaTausha Marie Morrison. Afterwards she moved to Detroit, and in September 1977, and she gave birth to her second child, her son, whom has also preceded her in death, Lee Andrew Morrison (better known as Drew).
In 1980, she married her childhood friend and sweetheart, Lee Andrew Cheers (better known as Jit). This union lasted over 26 years.

In her youth, Linda accepted Christ Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost. She held up that blood stained banner, pronouncing Christ everywhere she went, She made sure that she lived her life in a manner that would exemplify Christ at all times. She Never compromised her Christianity under no circumstances. She was a messenger for Christ. To all that crossed her path, she would introduce them to Jesus.

“Oh taste and see just how sweet my Jesus Is” she would say, “Just Try Him, I Promise He will Not Fail You”
In 1985, Linda moved to the northwest side of Detroit, where she bought her first home. She owned and operated a home child daycare business. She also had a hair clientele in the 80’s for years; she was popular for her jerry-curls. She did whatever she had to do, to make sure her children had the very best. She worked various jobs to send them to private Christian schools. She was determined to make sure her children knew the Lord.

She was a volunteer at the Salvation Army for many years, before she was hired as the director of the community center; there she was over the children’s activities. She was known as the neighborhood mom. There was always a herd of kids at her house. Everyone called her “The Candy Lady”. She passed out candy, and at the same time, she passed out the knowledge of Christ.

“Sister Cheers” was all the ingredients that would make up her wonderful deserts she was famous for. Her sweet potato pies, her cherry cheese cakes, her pine-apple upside down cakes, and let’s not forget her 7up pound cakes. She was always baking something for somebody. She loved to bake and cook, and - ooh - could she cook.

In 1985, she met the Jackson family, Carl and Deshawn, they were her neighbors. They invited her to come to church with them, that church was Solomon’s Temple Annex. The pastor was Elder Wayne Redmond, and First Lady, Mother Joyce Redmond. She became a member and joined the missionary board. She later moved on to become a member of Solomon’s Temple Church, where her pastor is Bishop William Lee Bonner. Solomon’s Temple Church was her church home for almost 30 years.

Sister Cheers worked at the Royal Palace Mall, owned by Solomon’s Temple for a few years. She also worked at The Crossroads Daycare with Sister Glenda Reed, before later moving back to Pittsburgh, PA. There she would attend Faith Temple LightHouse Church, where the pastor was Elder Joseph Long. She also attended Refuge Temple Church, where the pastor was Elder Shawn Walthour. She lived in the Hill District, and behind her home was a community outreach center. She would volunteer to feed the homeless, and work at the food bank, passing out groceries, she would use this platform to spread the love and word of God, bringing souls to Christ was her mission.

In 2007, Sister Cheers was diagnosed with Colon Cancer. She went through many trials and tribulations with this disease. Those who knew her would always say; If she didn’t tell you she was sick, you would not ever know. She was a ‘Diva’ to her heart. She would always say, “Just ‘cause I am sick, doesn’t mean I have to look sick” (smile). And she would say, “This disease is not going to take my life, when God is ready for me, He will come get me. Remember Tausha, God’s Got Me!!”

On Thursday evening, July 17, 2012, God called. He did just as she said, He came for her. He sent his Angels down with a brand new set of wings, made especially for my mother, Sister Linda Carol Cheers. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her daughter, LaTausha Marie Morrison, three sisters; Edna Roach (James), Helen Robinson (Charles), and Mary Clark. Six brothers; Larry Morrison, Bennett Morrison, James Morrison, Frank Morrison (Ronnell), Tom Craighead, and Mark Craighead; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, church family and friends. She will forever live in our hearts, gone but not forgotten.
