Addie M. Christian
Addie Murrell Christian, was born September 21, 1934 in Texarkana (Garland), Arkansas to the parents of James and Jimmy Mae Smith. Addie accepted Christ at an early age and continued to study her bible throughout her life.
Addie attended the Detroit Public School System, graduating from Cass Technical High School in 1952. While in high school, Addie matured and mastered three musical instruments; Piano, Clarinet and Cello. She played in a string and vocal ensemble. She was also an accomplished vocalist and sang in a number of trio and choir groups throughout the Metropolitan Detroit area.
A time to plant…
After high school, she was joined in holy matrimony with John Leroy Christian and was a homemaker for a number of years. Addie’s favorite hobbies were: Singing, playing her Keyboard, sewing, crafts and decorating. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
A time to gather stories together, a time to embrace…
She valued truth above approval and friendship over power, wealth or fame. She saw the rainbow and not the falling rain. Her continued faith sustained her to find the good in everything she saw. She was a very gentle person with the law of kindness in her tongue. She often thought of others above herself. She was a selfless loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
A time to love and a time of peace…
Addie departed this life on June 21, 2016 after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Leroy Christian; step son, Richard Christian; son Warren Christian; two brothers, Herbert L. Smith and Steven L. Rodgers. She leaves to cherish her memories: 4 children, Phyllis D., Timothy W.B., Dymple M., and Kyle E. Christian (Tamika); 13 grandchildren, 12 Great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Eddie Moore, Bernice Goins and Sharlene Trusel, a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
