Patricia Ann Cummings (Thomas)

Patricia Ann Cummings was born on March 22, 1954 to the late James and Maerena (“Grandma Mae”) Thomas, in Detroit, Michigan. She was the eldest of three siblings. She attended public schools and graduated from Kettering High School in 1972.

Patricia, also known as “Pat” gave birth to twins Ricky and Ronald Thomas on August 16, 1970. She loved being a Mother. She was devoted and dedicated to her children. What was best for her children was always forefront in all her decision making. She always dressed the twins alike and the neighbors would exclaim “Wow!! Twins, they look just alike. How do you tell them apart?” Oftentimes people would get confused and ask the twins “which one are you?” But, Pat knew without a doubt which one was which, at any angle, and it just amazed people.

Pat received salvation at Mountain View Missionary Baptist Church in the early 70’s. She graduated from Cambridge Business School and started working for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. She worked diligently for BCBSM thirty years! She also received various awards for years of service from the company. Several of her family members, so admired her faithfulness and dedication they followed her in her efforts to work for BCBSM.

On April 29, 1977, Pat was joined in Holy Matrimony to the “Love of her Life,” the late Eric Lynn Cummings. To their union they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Erica Mae Lynn, whom she depended on. Erica tirelessly showed love for her Mother. Pat truly appreciated her daughter’s dedication to her. She loved to cook and passed this skill on to Erica. She also taught her how to make the Mac and Cheese from scratch.
“Grandma Pat” as she was affectionately called by her Grandchildren and others, loved to laugh and have a good time with family and friends. Her hearty laugh would often make you laugh too. She loved to watch the television show Hard Core Pawn and the movies B.A.P.S. (Black American Princesses), Gone With The Wind, Forrest Gump and The Ten Commandments.

Every year Pat took her children, grandchildren, children of friends and neighbors, nieces, and nephews to various theme parks like Bob-Lo Island, Cedar Point, Michigan Adventure, Disney World and Four Bears, where she would often have picnics and enjoy family, food and fun. Many have shared their fond memories of summer adventures with “Aunt Pat.”

Patricia leaves to cherish her memory, three children: Erica, Ricky and Ronald (Michelle), Grandchildren: Courtney, Ricky Jr., and Alexa, one Sister, Denise Adams (Jerome), one Brother, Vincent Thomas, one uncle who preceded her in death, Sylvester Birdsong, her co-worker and friend, Eve Corey who never stop visiting, a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss Patricia’s presence tremendously.
