Obituary
Darryl McCrea Weston entered this life on April 10, 1956. He was the second of two children born to the union of Cornelius McCrea Weston and Jaquetta Yolanda (Burrus) Weston of Detroit, Michigan. The Weston Family originally laid roots at 4660 Helen St. on Detroit’s east side, but later moved to 17650 Warwick, where Darryl resided at the time of his passing.
Darryl attended Marcy Elementary, Barbour Junior High, Cass Technical High School, Henry Ford Community College, and the University of New Orleans (UNO). From a young age, his love and talent for basketball were apparent. He spent most of his days playing ball all over the city, in particular, at Franklin Settlement and St. Cecilia. His skills shone as a star player at Cass Tech and Henry Ford, and he was later recruited to play at UNO.
Darryl then moved to Dallas, TX, and pursued his dream of starting a business by establishing “Dream Carpet Cleaning”. He was a dedicated worker who held various roles in both Dallas and Detroit in telecommunications and customer service.
In Dallas, he met and married Deborah (Hawkins) Weston, and to their union were born Donovan McCrea Weston and Domonique Marie Weston. After their divorce, he and his children relocated to Detroit to the Weston Family home at 961 Connor. It was there that he met Vanessa Jones, his partner of many years. In 2010, they were blessed with Dereon Neveah Jaquetta Weston, his third child.
Darryl enjoyed spending time with his children. He loved going on drives with Dereon. They liked to sit and talk. He liked taking Domonique and Donovan to Coleman A. Young to swim, play basketball, and play tennis. Darryl enjoyed being outdoors, simply taking in the scenery. He enjoyed visiting Belle Isle and going on slow rolls through the Heidelberg project and down Lake Shore Road in Grosse Pointe.
Darryl was a quiet and peaceful man. He will be remembered for his unexpected comedic spirit, often whispering a joke under the radar. He had a shared love of good food, especially with his late mother, Jaquetta, which they indulged in late at night while Cornelius and Denise were fast asleep.
It was in New Orleans that he developed his love for Cajun cuisine. He shared that love with his children with frequent crab boils and fried catfish dinners. They had the opportunity to visit his old UNO stomping grounds and enjoy NOLA cuisine as a family in his later years.
Darryl was preceded in death by his father, Cornelius M. Weston, and his mother, Jaquetta Y. Burrus Weston.
Darryl went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. He is survived by his children: Donovan McCrea, Domonique Marie, and Dereon Neveah Jaquetta; his long time partner, Vanessa Jones; his sister, Denise H. Weston; nephews: Kalen (Kim), Kyle, and Kenton (the K Boys); cousin, Vernon English (Pamela); second cousins: Nikki, JuJuan, Justin, Jeremy (the J Boys), and Maya; and a host of other family members and friends.
