Frances Ann Turner was born July 13,1936 in Detroit Michigan, along with her twin brother James Walter Turner, the last of 5 children born to Walter Frank Turner and Florence Frances Turner (nee Ames). In her youth she was considered a “tomboy” because she liked climbing trees and playing baseball. She attended Highland Park High School and graduated in 1954.
Frances joined the Army in 1959 and graduated the Women’s Army Corp. During this time, she met Robert Dupre of South Carolina. From this union were born fraternal twins Brian Christian Dupre and Marlene Renee Dupre in 1961. She also received her honorable discharge from the military in that same year.
Frances worked as an LPN at Detroit Osteopathic Hospital in Highland Park until 1972, when she moved her family to Detroit and continued her nursing career at Sinai Hospital on West Outer Drive. Nursing was the perfect career for her because she loved helping people in whatever way she could, usually going far beyond expectations. Although she was genuinely warm and compassionate, Frances was a feisty soul and wouldn’t tolerate nonsense.
During her lifetime, she was a very active member of many churches including Grace Lutheran Highland Park, Berea Lutheran Detroit, Greenfield Peace Lutheran Detroit, and most recently Lutheran Church of the Shepherd King West Bloomfield.
Frances had three great joys in her life; first the Lord Jesus whom she served faithfully through her church and in her volunteer work. Second, she loved her family dearly and thoroughly enjoyed spending the holidays and vacations with them. Third, she loved the Feisty, Fabulous Rosebuds, her Red Hat club and the ladies who were her sisters in it; a group that fit perfectly and of which she became its Queen. To most of the family she was known as “Aunt Ann”, to her children simply “mom”, to her grandchildren she was known as “Granny Dupre”, and to her friends “a wonderful lady and a beautiful human being.”
Frances went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday September 15, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Florence, her husband Robert, her sisters Gertrude Thomas (John), Marion Henry (Egbert), Virginia Webb (Stanley). She is survived by her brother James Turner (Lois), her son Brian Dupre (Margo), her daughter Marlene (Montellis Whitt), her grandchildren Antoine Cathey, Biancia Dupre, Marissa Dupre, Walter Whitt, Martina Dupre, and Marllis Whitt, and a host of nieces and nephews.
