Eunice Arrington

April 8, 1936 — December 7, 2021

Eunice Arrington was born on April 8, 1936, in Holly Springs, Mississippi
to Bertha and Ingram Alexander. She was the second of two children born to their
union. She accepted Christ at an early age.

Eunice moved as a youth with her parents to Detroit, MI and lived on the
Northend side of Detroit. She graduated from Northern High School. In 1954,
Eunice married Earl Arrington, and to their union, three children were born –
Pamela, Sheila, and Carolyn.

Eunice loved the lord. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 23. She was a
faithful member of Second Chapel Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Greater New
Mt. Moriah, and New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. She was a devoted part of
the usher board for several years. The upbringing of her grandchildren in church
had a major impact on the women they are today.

Eunice lived on Dale St. for over 40 years. Before her health started to
diminish, she was known for having a green thumb and keeping her yard looking
immaculate. She also loved cooking. Her favorite dish to make was potato salad.
Eunice worked for Embassy Suites, formally known as DoubleTree, in
Southfield, MI for over twenty years. She held a supervisory position and received
awards for her dedication and exceptional skills. She also had experience working
in the school cafeteria, a factory, and at Chrysler.

Eunice enjoyed being around her family and laughing at her grandchildren’s
jokes. She had a special love for her great grandchildren – Jessica and Karter. They
loved to be around her, and she loved being around them. Eunice would let it be
known that her daughter Pamela was the nice one, and Carolyn was the mean one,
even though she loved them both dearly. Her grandchildren always joked around to
see who was her favorite grandchild, but wasn’t able to receive that answer, even
though we all know it was…

Eunice loved playing cards games (particularly Spades, Tunk, and Bid
Whiz), watching game shows and sports. She also loved going to Chuck E. Cheese.
Skeeball was her favorite game to play. Eunice was also a huge fan of the Detroit
Tigers. An abundance of memories with her family were made at Comerica Park.

Although she enjoyed watching games on the television, having the opportunity to
physically be at her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s games were even
more satisfying. MotorCity Casino was one of her favorite places to visit. She
loved playing the slot machines and eating cornbeef sandwiches.
Eunice showed much tenacity. She was determined to get her driver’s
license, and she did, in her fifties…. yet still couldn’t drive. She drove her little
Saturn until she couldn’t drive it anymore.

Eunice was a strong believer in Christ, but she also thought elephants had a
special meaning as well. Whenever you visited Eunice’s house, you were bound to
see one, two, or even three sets of elephants.

Eunice was a fighter all the way to the end. She was able to beat lung cancer
with radiation and chemotherapy, and was ready to fight it again, but God had a
different plan in mind. Her journey here on earth had come to an end.

Eunice departed this life on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Beaumont
Hospital, prior to just being at home in Detroit, MI, watching TV with her
daughters. She was preceded in death by her parents Bertha Coston and Ingram
Alexander, brother Givance {Sonny} and daughter, Sheila Arrington.
Ms. Eunice, as most people called her, will truly be missed. She leaves to
laugh and cherish her memories: her daughters: Pamela Arrington and Carolyn
(Rodney) Robinson; her grandchildren: Nicole Simmons, Kejuana Arrington, Shalonda Washington, LeJuana Arrington,Dominique Dawson, and Rodney Robinson II; her great-grandchildren: Antoine, Talise, Diamond, Jessica, and Karter; one great-great-grandchild: Amora; a close neighbor and friend, Walter Fleming, and a host of other relatives and friends.
