George Fred Allman, Jr., affectionately known as “Babo,” was born on November 28, 1949,
in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to the union of George Fred and Nadine Allman. He was the second of six children and carried a special place in the hearts of family and friends.
On August 16, 1969, George was united in holy matrimony to his childhood sweetheart, Shirley Ruth Davis. Their loving union was blessed with six children: Tracey Renee’, Kimberly Denise, Angela Yvonne, Tamitha Michelle,Kelli Danene, and Shirley Katrice. On August 16, 2025, George and Shirley joyfully celebrated 56 years of marriage.
George accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Ebenezer AME Church. After marriage, he joined Browns Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served under the late Reverend Freeman R. Brown. Later, he united with Oakland Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, continuing his Christian education and spiritual growth under the leadership of the late Reverend Larry J. Walker, Sr. and Reverend Eddie Saiin II.
Educated in the Detroit Public School System, George pursued higher education at Davenport University,graduating with honors and earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management. He went onto serve as Manager of Patient Transportation at Detroit Medical Center (DMC)/Harper Hospital for 30 years until his retirement. In addition, he was the proud franchise owner of White Glove Cleaning Concepts, LLC and several other business ventures, including “Shades / Brown Girls Rock.
”A man of strength, purpose, and integrity, George was admired for his wisdom and steadfast love. Blessed with a beautiful singing voice, he was a member of The El Morrocos during the 1960s and 1970s, performing at venues across Michigan.
On September 2, 2025, George answered the Lord’s call, went from labor to reward, and entered eternal rest. He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted and loving wife Shirley Ruth, six daughters: Tracey Renee’, KimberlyDenise, Angela Yvonne, Tamitha Michelle, Kelli Danene, and Shirley Katrice; three siblings: Robert OrlandoAllman, Nadine Michelle Robinson, and Donna Louise Baker; George was preceded in death by two beloved siblings: Marilyn “Puddin” Lawson and Kenneth Douglas Allman. He was blessed with eleven grandchildren,twelve great-grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
George Fred “Babo” Allman’s legacy of faith, love, and devotion will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
