Obituary

Mrs. Gisele Emile Buchet Barrett, lovingly known as Gigi, was born on March 15, 1931, in Meul, France. She passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, at Saint Anthony Health Center in Warren, Michigan, at the age of 94.

Gigi was the middle child of Joseph and Emile Buchet, and she was preceded in death by her older brother and younger sister. Following her education as a seamstress, Gigi began her career in a humble manner, creating garments in exchange for chickens, as many of her clients were unable to afford cash payments.

Her journey took her from France to Algeria, Africa, and eventually to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was in Canada that she met the love of her life, Charles Lawrence Barrett known to family as uncle Lawrence. Their unique love story began when Charles, inspired by a dream, drove to the restaurant where Gigi worked, leading to their marriage on August 10, 1967. Despite the challenges of a language barrier, their love flourished, and they remained devoted to each other over 50 years until Charles's passing

February 27, 2019.

Gigi and Charles returned to France after their wedding, but soon moved back to the United States in search of better opportunities. Their adventures took them to various locations, including Detroit, Michigan; New Brunswick, New Jersey; Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania; and Farmville, North Carolina. Throughout her life, Gigi was employed at numerous establishments, including the Rutgers Coat Factory in New Brunswick and Lear Corporation, Southfield, Michigan. She was a kind Christian woman, always active in church and willing to offer a helping hand to those in need.

Gigi is survived by her dear sister-in-law, Dollie Lee of Southfield, Michigan, along with seven nieces, three nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the love she shared with everyone around her. Gigi's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
