Life Story for Violet Givens

Violet Hopkins Givens (also known to her many family and friends as Vi) was born on October 23rd 1919 in Herman Kiefer Hospital in Detroit, Michigan to the union of the late Alonzo and Irene Hopkins.
Violet departed this life peacefully on Tuesday October 1st 2013 at 2:30 a.m. In the hospital God saw that she was heavy laden and tired. He said unto her " Come on to Me and I will give you rest.”
Vi spent her earliest years in Rocky Mountain and Enfield, North Carolina . While residing there she met and married Mr. Raleigh Dozier Sr., Shortly after they migrated to Richmond, Virginia with their two oldest children Raleigh Jr. and Ann, the youngest son William was born there.
After the passing of many years Violet met and married her wonderful friend and companion Mr. Samuel G. Givens. After agreeing they decided to relocate to Detroit, Michigan where they lived happily until his demise in 1996. After which she remained a widower.
To the union of Vi and Sam their precious and youngest daughter Leona S. Givens was born which surprised and delighted them both. Violet completed her education in the North Carolina School System. Violet entered into the Christian experience by joining the White Oak Missionary Baptist Church in Enfield, North Carolina and being baptized in the river. Upon returning to Detroit as a wife and mother she united with the Union grace Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Major Smith where she served on the usher board for many years.
When pastor Smith made his transition Violet Immediately reunited with and joined Holy Savior which is now Spirit of Faith Missionary Baptist Church her pastor was Reverend John Manning.
Violet work for Philip Morris Tobacco Company in Richmond, Virginia. In Detroit she spent her occupational years as a maintenance custodian while working for CBM “City Building Maintenance” she acquired employment for numerous family members and friends. As CBM expanded and grew mother received many, many awards and certificates for her expertise and work ethic. Anyone and everyone that really and truly knew her, new that working was a passion of hers and that she was at work more than she was ever at home.
Violet loved to play Bingo, mostly with her daughters and also games of chance. Her favorite saying was "I'm going to live to be a hundred and four and many, many more."
