Obituary for Judith Givhan - Washington

Judith Givhan Washington was born in Hamtramck, Michigan to the union of Stanford and Inez Givhan. She was the eldest of five children and the only girl.

She was preceded in death by both parents and two of her brothers Sherman and Keith.

Judy, as she was affectionately called accepted Christ at an early age. She was baptized at First Baptist Institutional Church while located in Hamtramck. Judith enjoyed singing in the choir at church; which is still a family tradition carried out through four generations. She was a regular attendee of Sunday school, rarely missing a session.

She attended Detroit public Schools and graduated from Central High School. Judy worked for thirty two years at Chrysler Corporation. In 2003 her coworkers, family and friends joined her in celebrating her accomplishments at her retirement celebration.

After school she married and to this union one daughter was born Rita Thompson-Miller. She later met and married Ulysses Washington Jr. In this union she immediately inherited a loving and extensive family Judith had several hobbies for which she was very passionate. As a young adult her skills as a seamstress led her to sewing all of her own clothes. She had a talent of making a fashion statement through her wardrobe and a special affection for dressing her granddaughter Lauren. She enjoyed cooking soul food dinners for her family, especially, macaroni and cheese. Shopping was her most favorite hobby. Judy was humorous and loved to make people laugh. She liked entertaining at her home and at the family business.

Judith was called home to be with the Lord, February IO,2Ol4. She leaves to cherish her loving husband, Ulysses Washington, Jr.; daughter, Rita Miller (Robert); granddaughter, Lauren Marie Miller; brothers, Stanford Givhan Jr. and Dennis Givhan; five sisters-in law; six stepsons; two stepdaughters, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
