On Sunday, October 11, 2020, while at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, Ruby Greer’s soul transcended to celestial peace.
Born in Fort Pillow, Tennessee, May 13,1951, she was the sixth child of eight siblings. Her parents were the late Mr. Charles H. and Ardelia Bursey. Nurtured in a Christian home, Ruby united with Oak Grove Baptist Church in Fort Pillow, Tennessee at a young age.
The family moved to Carbondale, Illinois in 1966. Ruby attended Carbondale Community High School and graduated in 1969. During this time, she joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. In 1971, she united in Holy Matrimony to Jesse W. Greer and they moved to Detroit, Michigan. To this union, three daughters were born.
Recognized for her faithfulness and her kind, caring disposition, Ruby was a true friend who possessed a radiant source of love, care, smiles and humor. She was admired and respected by both young and old because of her beautiful spirit. She loved to read the Bible, religious books, listen to gospel music and to spend time with family and friends. Ruby was also a devoted mother who loved her daughters and grandchildren with every ounce of her being. She also loved to joke, have fun and always enjoyed a good laugh.
She leaves to cherish her memories Jesse W. Greer, her former husband and very good friend for many years, three daughters – Latonya Greer, (Douglasville, GA), Natasha Greer-Evans (Lewis) (Douglasville, GA) Jessica Greer Mack, (Farmington, MI), three grandchildren- Thomas Davis and Briana Greer Carson (Farmington, MI) and Khalil Greer (Douglasville, GA). Four brothers Jeremiah (Rosie) Bursey and Charles (Bettye) Bursey (Carbondale, IL), Othel (Shirley) Bursey, (Detroit, MI), and Samuel (Deborah) Bursey (Decatur, IL). Three sisters Jo Ann (Albert) Morton, (Atlanta, GA), Mary Rogers and Gwen Harris (Memphis, TN). Special friends – Florene Williams and Lena Neal (Detroit, MI), a special cousin Retha Berry (Detroit, MI) and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
