Hal Heard Jr., age 81, of Canton, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on June 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Pontotoc, Mississippi, Hal lived by his motto: “Don’t stand on the corner, own the corner.” He graduated from Siggers High School in 1964 and earned an associate’s degree from Wayne County Community College.
Hal married Gloria “Peggy” Darden Heard on March 28, 1972, sharing 53 beautiful years together. They raised two children: Hal Heard III of Ypsilanti, MI, and Camesha Heard of Canton, MI, and cherished grandchildren Jonas and Bayleigh.
A man of deep faith, Hal served faithfully at Cathedral of Faith in Inkster as an usher and in bus ministry. He worked 27 years at General Motors as a master problem-solver and was known for his financial wisdom, generous spirit, and love of gospel music.
Hal was a devoted father, sports enthusiast, and world traveler who was always ready to help his family. His goal was simple: “I’m just trying to have something,” and he wanted the best for everyone.
Surviving Family: Wife Gloria “Peggy” Heard; children Hal Heard III and Camesha Heard; grandchildren Jonas Wicker and Bayleigh Heard; siblings Daisy Sadler (H.B.), Arma Jean Seals (Joe), JoAnn Hendricks, Charles Heard (Mary Jo), and J.B. Heard; brother-in-law Charles Darden; sisters-in-law Evelyn Heard and Cathy Cunningham; and many nieces and nephews.
Hal will be remembered for his determination, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy will be felt for generations to come.
