Juanita Hammond
Juanita Hammond - 1998 Michiganian of the Year
Juanita Hammond was born March 6, 1912 to Rufus Jackson and Mayme Osby in Springfield, Illinois. She received her early education in Illinois Schools and moved to Detroit in 1940. She worked for many years as an agent for Supreme Liberty Life Insurance Company and in the Detroit Public Schools. She is best known as an administrator for the Art Centre Music School where she worked faithfully from 1977-2004. As the Director of the Art Center Music School In 1998, she was named one of the Michiganians of the year for the example she set in making Michigan a better place to live.
Fiercely proud of her heritage, she was active in Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War.
She leaves to mourn her memory a son, Elwyn Bush (Juanita), one granddaughter, Jocelyn Gail Bush and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends.
