The sunrise of Marie Wofford Hardaway happened at her birth July 20, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Juneobie Wofford and Queenie Dallas Wofford. She was the second child of four siblings and was lovingly referred to as Honey Bunch. Marie was educated in the Detroit Public School system. She attended Northern High school where she was aspiring to be an Interior Designer. She later met and married her life partner of 68 years, Albert Hardaway.
Marie and Albert were blessed with ten children and this production became the center of Marie’s life. She loved sewing and introduced her daughters to the love of the craft. In addition, she passed on to them an affinity for Thrift shops. During the holidays, Marie was the chief cook-in-charge utilizing all of her children as her prep cooks. With each child, Marie had a special bond, as the need from her from each child required.
Her grandchildren affectionately referred to her as Granny. Each of her grandchildren shared their own special bond. Collectively they will cherish memories of cod liver oil remedies for any and every ailment, trips to the thrift stores and bakery, quiet time during the Young and the Restless and the infamous Skelton key adventures. Above all her commitment, strength and love that she communicated with a hug and smile, smirk and a pat or just simply with a “hmmph” will forever live on in their hearts.
Early in life, she joined Corinthian Baptist Church. Later she dedicated her life to Jehovah and was baptized in 1999 as Jehovah’s Witness where she relished performing field service delivering the Word.
After each of her children passed the age of dependency, Marie took the opportunity to obtain her one and only employment outside the home driving for Safeway Transportation and specialized in driving the Special Needs children. She encouraged some daughters to drive for the company. She later retired from Safeway.
Preceding her in death her son Albert Hardaway Jr., grandson Michael A. Smith, Parents Juneobie and Queenie Wofford, sister Ruth Maxwell and brothers Edwin and Alvin Wofford.
The sunset of her journey Thursday March 14, 2019 and leaves to cherish her memories her husband Albert Hardaway, children Felecia Hardaway, Patricia (Harold) Bracy, Michael, Brenda Stewart, Linda (Johnie) Towns, Wendell Hardaway, Carolyn Howard, Kevin Hardaway and Cherryl Hardaway. Grandchildren Anesha (Michael) Williams, Ciera Hardaway, Tamara Smith, Brenda (Mookie) Stewart Jr. , Terry Charles Hardaway, Crystal Hardaway, Jewel Howard and Lance Dudley. Great Grandchildren Angel, Javion, Aaniyah, Branden, Jaylen, Julian, Skylar and Daniro. She is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
