Harold Quincy Billops
Obituary
Harold Quincy Billops was born on May 12, 1937 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to the union of Walter B. and LeeBerta Billops.
Harold accepted Christ at an early age and was affectionally called “Bunchy”, a nickname given to him as a child which would remain with him throughout his adult years. While still a young boy, his family moved to Detroit, Michigan where he was educated in the Detroit Public School system and attended Thomas Jefferson Intermediate School located on Selden St. He served in the United States Army enlisting in 1960, and received an honorable discharge in 1962. Upon returning to Detroit, Harold was employed with the Chrysler Corporation and later at the Thorn Apple Valley Packing Company and Byron’s Flowers.
Harold was united in holy matrimony to Gerilyn Spearman in 1962 and to this union there were two children, son Harold Quincy Billops Jr. and daughter, Darlena (Dolly) Lee Billops who was the apple of his eye.
Harold was a sports enthusiast, with his interests primarily being in football and boxing. He even boxed as an amateur while enlisted in the army. He was very astute concerning current events and politics, which therefore enabled him to engage in fierce debates. He also had a keen interest in movies, especially those of the western and action genre’. Having a passion for singing and being blessed with a deep, captivating baritone voice, Harold enjoyed entertainment and sang as a member of the Royal Jokers, a local group based in Detroit. While with the Royal Jokers, Bunchy traveled and performed through-out the country.
Harold departed this life and stepped into eternity on November 30, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father Walter Billops, mother LeeBerta Billops, son Harold Billops Jr., and brothers Walter Abram Billops and Bernard Carver.
His life is cherished and celebrated by his beloved daughter Darlena, nephews Walter (Jean) Billops of Toledo, Ohio, Gary Billops, Dwainn Billops, Brian (Lisa) Billops and niece Jeanetta Farmer, all of Detroit, Michigan and a multitude of cousins and friends.
