Obituary for
Mattie Lee Harris
Mattie Lee Harris was born to the late Eddie and Kate Tripp on November 19, 1933 in Detroit Michigan. She was born the fourth of seven children. Mattie attended Detroit public schools and graduated from Cass Tech in 1951.
Mattie met and married the love of her life Willie Harris, on July 21,1956. The two were married for 56 years prior to the passing of Willie Harris in 2012. Mattie was a dedicated wife and a cherished friend to her husband. Theirs was a relationship admired by all who had the pleasure of knowing them.
Mattie retired from F.B. Wright where she worked as a senior clerk in the Accounts Payable department. She loved to play cards, and entertaining family and friends. In addition, she was a fantastic cook.
Although Mattie had no children of her own, she doted on her nieces and nephews as if they were hers. She was not much of a disciplinarian because she never had to. A simple smile, a few kind words and a slice of her infamous German Chocolate cake was all that was need to remedy any situation.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her brother Frank Tripp and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mattie, your loved ones await you - rest in sweet peace.
A Woman of Noble Character…inspired by Proverbs 31: 10-31
A woman of noble character watches over the affairs of her household, and faces life’s challenges with strength and dignity. She bravely protects her loved ones, and opens her doors to accommodate those in need.
The care of others sometimes fall at her feet and it is without fear, complaint, or idleness that each need is met. She understands that patience and compassion are components of love, and to be of service to someone is truly a blessing.
A stranger to no one, her words are encouraging and truthful. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
A woman of noble character honors those around her, understanding that the most effective impression is through humility and respect.
God is her center, and it is from Him that she draws her strength. Her confidence in the Lord is a light to others, and a virtue of which she is highly admired.
Lord, give Mattie Harris the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at heaven’s gate.
