Ida Mae Sterrett

December 30, 1920 — April 9, 2024

On 12/30/1920, Ida Mae Sterrett was born in Marietta Florida to Florie Etta and Kyser Cleveland Brooks.  She was the ninth of fifteen children; all who preceded her in death.  She moved to Michigan at the age of three. The family lived in Port Huron.  They moved to Royal Oak Township and then Detroit. Ms. Ida was educated in the Detroit and Ferndale Public Schools.

Mrs. Ida was united in holy matrimony to Clifton Henry Sterrett.  To this union seven children were born.  Clifton Henry, along with three of her sons (Robert, Colvin and John) preceded her in death.

Mrs. Ida was a homemaker until 1966. She was employed seasonally at the post office during Christmas. She retired as a nurse's aide from Hutzel Hospital in 1979. Mrs. Ida worked in the nursery, spoiling all of the babies ; especially those related to her.

Mrs. Ida accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church, where she served for many years; until she joined Hartford Memorial Baptist Church.  While at Hartford, she served on the Monday Mission Board.

Mrs. Ida was excellent cook. She was known for her  homemade rolls  and a specialty, she called pecan ice box cookies. You were considered lucky to be at the kitchen table when she took the rolls from the oven. The aroma would fill the house.  Mrs. Ida enjoyed traveling and spending time with her friends in Idlewild MI.  She loved her grandchildren and her great grands. Mrs. Ida enjoyed preparing their favorite meals. She especially enjoyed the visits received from Vincent Jr. (Dino), Aja and Anniya Atmore.  Ms. Ida loved the Lord and she read the Word on a daily basis. She would often engage in what she called 'puzzling'. A term she coined to described doing word search puzzles.

Ms. Ida  was given her wings on April 9, 2024. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children; Jeri Sterrett, Marsha Sterrett, Jesse Sterrett and Brenda Jeter.  She leaves 12 grandchildren: Vincent Atmore, Karen Woolfolk, Clifton Sterrett, Carla Butler, Andre Sterrett, Colleen Jackson, Myron Thomas,  Anthony Douglas, Asa Lockett, Torria Sterrett, Talen Sterrett and Johnathon Sterrett. She leaves seventeen great grand children, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and a  wonderful caregiver, Anna Tyus to cherish her memory.
