Ismail Basheer Omar

Michael Wilson (Ismail Basheer Omar) was born August 9, 1948 in Pinola, Mississippi to the union of the late Arthur and Louise Wilson. Michael was one of five children born to this union. Preceding him in death are his parents and sisters Mary Butler and Sharon Wilson. 

Michael and his family moved from Mississippi to Detroit, MI in 1953. He was educated in Detroit Public schools and attended Eastern High School. Michael joined the Nation of Islam in 1969 and was a devoted follower of the religion. He was a lieutenant in the FOI (Fruit of Islam). 

In 1970 he met Bettie Jean Thomas and they were united in matrimony on September 17, 1971, and together had three children: Tiffany, Zakiyyah and Sayyda. In 1977 Michael legally changed his name to Ismail Basheer Omar to aline with his religious beliefs.

Ismail worked for over 24 years for General Motors Corporation, working in many positions for the company. In his final years he worked various jobs and eventually started a trash removal/junking company. Ismail loved his music, food, fishing, his children and grandkids. His favorite pastime was sitting near the Detroit riverwalk and people watch. Omar was the life of the party and was a jokester. He would help you out even to his detriment. 

Ismail departed this life on March 29, 2024. He leaves to cherish his memories his four daughters: Tiffany Mitchell (Kevin), Zakiyyah Omar (Hosia), Sayyda Omar and Larhkeba Johnson. Grandchildren: Omari Mitchell, Amina Mitchell, Layla Humphrey, Marcel Davis III, Quentin Johnson, De’Juan Robinson, A’Kila Clark, Ma’Lik Johnson, India Charleston and great-granddaughter Kendyl Johnson. Sisters Frances House & Della Wilson. And his beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
