I only met James for a very brief time. I could tell he was a very special man. I only wish I could have spent more time with him. May he rest in peace and the love he shared with his family and friends find comfort in their hearts forever.

I met James Teal my second year at Purdue University. Teal, as I always called him, was recruited in 1968 along with Marvin Adams (Belmont N.C). During this time, the Big Ten Conference was recruiting black players from the South and Teal was in that number. Teal was a great and ferocious ball player on the field and had a quiet and calm sprit off the field. A very patient man. I know this because he taught me how to play Sudoku. That was not easy. Over these many years we have remained friends and kept our North Carolina connection.
Inez and I were saddened to hear of Teal's transition. Please know that James Teal touched our lives. It is his love that's left behind that last forever. May you and your family know that his special memories will live on with us and the many friends he touched on his journey.

Death leaves a void that no man can fill, and death leaves a hurt that ONLY GOD and time HEAL, but love leaves memories that no one can steal.
May the memory of our Brother James Teal live in our hearts forever. He was a giant in more ways than one. I'm just going to die down
