Janice Gatson was a phenomenal woman with an oversized heart, stilt like legs, a swing in her waist and joy in her feet! She graduated from Northeastern HS and secured employment in Temp Services, Financial, Automotive and Entrepreneurial fields. She was raised by her grandmother, Marcella Gervin (deceased) after being separated from her mother Alice Wallace and father Joe McCall (deceased). Her foundation of life, although not traditional nor ideal, ingrained morals and values that she would go on to instill in her children; James, Juanitta, Terrance, Tyenna, Jessica, Lauren and Mercedes (niecey pooh). She fell in love with Howard Gatson Sr. and married in an intimate setting August 5, 2016. They partnered through the experiences and challenges of a blended family until Howard’s transition in 2021.
Janice was The Fixer, the family's own Olivia Pope! Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan J. says “Security is not having things; it’s handling things.” Janice was a security for many people and assisted them with shelter, finances, love, guidance and understanding. She had an aura that made people feel valued, fortunate, encouraged, included, reassured and warm. She’d tell you when you were wrong and still love you right.
She was blessed with a large, loving, humorous family and cherished them dearly. Janice enjoyed traveling, shopping, bingo, family kick-backs, comedy shows, concerts and hanging with her siblings; Veronica, Angela, Vanessa, Tameko, Shirley, Karen (cosister) , Consuela, Michael, Lee Gatson Sr., preceding her in death -Tara (cosister) and Michelle.
Her hosts of family and friends will miss her joy, laughter, humor, wisdom and love. Thank you for helping us carry on her memory eternally in our hearts.
This dance is for you lady legs:
“You made me happy,
This you can bet,
You stood right beside me, yeah,
And I won't forget
And I really love you
You should know
I wanna make sure I'm right, girl
Before I let go”
