Jean Dickey

July 26, 1930 — August 31, 2024

Jean Dickey was born on July 26, 1930, and leaves behind a legacy of love and service that touched the lives of many. She was the beloved daughter of Clyde and Lillian McClain, and grew up alongside her siblings Thomas, Clyde Jr., Carl (“Jack”), Frank, Richard and Phyllis.

She was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, where she attended Northwestern High School. As a talented singer, Jean had a beautiful voice and would often sing a range of opera melodies. She later embarked on a fulfilling career, eventually retiring from Henry Ford Hospital in 1992. At work, Jean was known for her diligence, empathy, and the ability to make everyone feel valued and cared for.

Jean was married to Bernard Harris Sr., then later to Albert Dickey in Holy Matrimony until his death in 1975. As a nurturing and strong mother, she raised six children: Bernard Jr., Carl, Eric, Anthony, Kimberly and Tyra.

Jean was known for her easy-going spirit, a quality that endeared her to everyone she met. She had a natural ability to make people feel comfortable, always offering a warm smile or kind words. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds, making her a beloved figure within her family, neighborhood and community.

The last several years of her life were spent under the attentive care of her daughter Tyra in Prince George’s County, Maryland. These years were highlighted by her love of Family Feud, and a well-earned reputation as a fierce Bingo competitor—handily beating opponents at the local senior center.

Jean passed away peacefully at home on August 31, 2024, at the age of 94 with her daughter Tyra by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings, including her brother Bobby Fuller, and sons Bernard Jr. and Eric. She is survived by her sons Carl and Anthony, daughters Kimberly and Tyra, and a host of other relatives and friends. Her spirit will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
