Obituary for
Edmon T. Jennings
Edmon Thomas Jennings was born on February 18, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio, the first son of James and Vesta Jennings. After the passing of his father, he left high school at the age of 16 to join the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp to provide for his family. While working for Ford Motor Company, Edmon was drafted to the US Army in 1942. During those years, he met the love of his life Annie Norita. They married and settled in Detroit, Michigan. Their union produced six children, Edmon Russell, Michael Keith, Brian David, Geralyn, Vesta Ann, and Christopher. Edmon retired as a United States Postal Service letter carrier.
Edmon was a devout Catholic and his deep faith in God formed the basis for his outlook on life. Serving as an usher at both Visitation and St. Gregory, he served for over 50 years. After leaving St. Gregory, he became a member of St. Mary’s of Redford.
He thoroughly enjoyed everything surrounding baseball; specifically, he loved playing the game throughout his childhood and as an adult, listening to it on the radio, watching it on television, and witnessing his grandchildren gradually gain the same type of love for the sport via many local baseball leagues. Bowling was another activity that he was very fond of, participating in various leagues over the years.
Known to most of his family as “Ed”, he was a caring brother; devoted husband; loving father and father-in-law; uncle cherished grandfather, great-grandfather; and treasured friend. All who knew him will truly miss him. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Norita, his parents, his sister Geneva and his brother Marshall. He is survived by his brothers Richard and James, his six children; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; multiple nieces and nephews; and a plethora of other family and friends.
