Obituary for Beverly Johnson

Beverly Imogene Johnson affectionately known as “Jean” was born to the union of Ervin Gordon Wilson Sr. and Ruby Geraldine Wilkins in Memphis, Tennessee on June 24, 1938.
Jean received her education through the Detroit Public School System receiving her diploma from Miller High School. She later attended and completed Virginia Farrell Cosmetology School. She also attended Elsa Cooper Institute of Court Reporting.
In 1957 Jean was joined in holy matrimony to Robert Lee Johnson Sr. God blessed Jean to birth five children, four sons: Robbie, Clifford, Christopher, Dameon, and one daughter, Kimberly. Jean was employed at the United States Postal Service, where she served dutifully for eleven years. She was later employed at Detroit Area on Aging, serving seniors in her community.
Jean was a faithful member of Everybody’s Tabernacle Church for over forty years where she served as a devoted choir member, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent of the Sunday School. She also served in the Modern Mothers Ministry. Jean later joined the First Church of the Redeemed where she faithfully taught Sunday School and also sang in the choir. She was an avid intercessor, counselor, and teacher of the Word of God, but the most precious gift she possessed was wisdom. She led multitudes into salvation.
Rising early to read the Word of God with a hot cup of coffee is how Jean started her day. She was passionate about dance, from modern, ballet to jazz. In her early years it was her dream to dance with the Ziggy Johnson Dance Troupe. A devoted mother, Jean's love for her children and grandchildren was unconditional. She enjoyed spending time with them. She instilled the love of God in them and constantly covered them in prayer. Her greatest desire was to see them succeed. Not only did Jean unselfishly pour her love and time into her entire family, she was mother to many others. She also loved, counseled, and was mentor to the children throughout her neighborhood.
Jean reached the end of her journey peacefully on April 11, 2013 and made her transition to her new life and home, to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her sister Pearl and brother Ervin Jr. Jean leaves to cherish her memory in love and life, her five children, Robert Lee Jr., “Robbie” (Cody-fiance’), Clifford, Christopher, Kimberly LaJuan (Russell) and Dameon (Sherry); nine grandchildren, Resean, Christin, Kelanda, Mikel, Daveon, Kimari, Brian, Alex and Jimaree; three great-grandchildren, Zalen, Resean Jr. and little Clifford; four siblings, George Wilson (Annie), Ashtabula, Ohio, Delores Yancy and Robert Wilson, Detroit, MI, William “Allen” Wilson (Daphne) of Ashtabula, Ohio, also a spiritual daughter, Zelda Harris whom she took under her wings; a special friend and neighbor, Alfreda Carlton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
