Obituary for Allen K. Jones

Allen K. Jones was born February 14, 1936 in Henderson, TN to the union of Willie M. and Emma (Frye) Jones.

Allen was educated in the Chester County Public School System in Henderson, TN. He later attended Lewis College of Business in Detroit, MI. He enlisted in the Navy July 13, 1955, where he worked as a Cook and as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic. He was released from active duty with an honorable discharge and transferred to the Reserves July 10, 1959, and held this status until July 12, 1963. He was awarded a China Service Medal.

In 1962, Allen relocated to Detroit, MI. He met and married Ella L. McAdory Russell February, 1969. He was ordained a Deacon in 1982 at Hopewell Baptist Church and later joined Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church before settling at Central Institutional Baptist Church under the Pastorate of Dr. Clayton Smith.

Allen was employed by the Chrysler Corporation and retired in 1996 as a Supervisor. Allen loved the outdoors and was known for his luscious gardens and beautiful landscapes for which he won numerous community awards. His love for auto mechanics was trumped by fishing; barbequing; old black and white westerns and a great game of dominoes. Although he was very stern and candid, he had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories and laugh.

He departed this life on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at the Lahser Hills Nursing Care Centre in Southfield, MI. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Ella; six children: Kelvin K. Russell (Donna); Aline M. Jones; LaWanda R. Russell; Allen K. Jones, Jr; Joseph W. Russell and LaTonya R. Jones; ten grandchildren: Arline; Joseph; Noel; Kyle; Hakeem; Allen; Raymond; La Keitha; Ernest; and Kaya; one brother, William M. Jones; two sisters, Mary Nell Jones and Mattie Franklin; nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Allen was preceded in death by his father and mother; brother, Franklin O. Jones and sister, Emma Lee Jones.
