Effie M. Langford
Effie Mae Walker Langford Age 91 was born on November 8, 1922 in Eutaw, Alabama. She was the first daughter born to Charlie and Connie Riley Walker, whom preceded her in death. The family relocated to Nashville, Tennessee where Effie graduated from Pearl High School in 1941. She became a licensed Beautician. . All her customers boasted that No one could “press and curl” like Effie, Miss Effie, Aunt Effie or Mrs. Langford. Effie and William Earsley Langford were married On August 25.1942 The southern migration brought the family to Detroit, MI. William and Effie were married for over Thirty-Nine years, until death parted them on December 10.1981 Effie met the babysitting, child care and latchkey needs for many, parents. She was the loving, caring, nurturing “Grandmama,” Grandmother, Grandma to many babies and children. Effie was very industrious involving herself in many activities: creating ceramic pieces, Crocheting, collecting elephants, designing and hand sewing quilts. She had a “green thumb” for growing house plants, yard plants as well as a backyard garden patch. She treasured tending to her tropical or goldfish aquarium. . Effie loved traveling and was an excellent trip navigator. Her most memorable vacations were to Nassau Bahamas and Cape Town, South Africa. She also looked forward to being a “snow bird” from the Detroit winters by spending sunny days in West Palm Beach, FL. She was always busy until poor eye sight, limited mobility and ill health slowed her down. On February 6, 2014, the Lord sent his angels to bring Effie Mae Walker Langford into his presence forever. She leaves to mourn her passing, cherish her life, love and legacy: Ten Children, Virginia Louise,Willeda Mae, Patricia Ann Dysard, Theressa Yvonne Peete, Deborah Jean Fisher, William Earsley, Jr., Charles T. Vincent, Kenneth Lee, Edward Bernard and Felicia Michelle. 19 Grandchildren:: Kevin, William III, Noland, Ebony, Tanitra, Leron, Diondre, Kywan, Charles II, Terese, Edward II, William Tellefaro, William Trevor, Carietha, Gerald, D’ante, Randy Chrystal and Isaac. 17 Great-Grandchildren: Autumn, Julian, Nicholas, Lamarque, Amyre, Jada, Jalyn, Christian, Noah, Dominick, Tanner, Elashia, LaMya, Qiana, Barkari, Paris and Charles III. Sisters -in-love Sarah Langford Harley (Baltimore, MD), Alberta Lankford. Sons-in-love: Kenneth Nesbitt, Larry Chin, Leroy Peete, Jerome Lawnrence. Daugthers-in-love: Barbara Nesbitt, Sandra Langford, Wanda-Langford, Carol Langford, Wanda Walker., Lisa Craft. Grand Daughters–in-love: Karen Langford, Danielle Langford, Abby Wrysch and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Effie’s funeral was held at Oak Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church.
