Larry Lenard Johnson entered this life on November 16, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan. Larry is the second of nine children born to the late Marjorie and Isadore Johnson (both departed this life before Larry, along with his brother Brandon Keith Johnson and sister Anita Adorn Johnson-Greer). Larry is and always will be known as a very devoted son, brother, cousin, and friend to all who knew him.
Larry accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and never wavered from his faith in God. His family were devoted members of Peace Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. This was the ancestral church home of his maternal grandmother Eddie Mary Legion-Cook and great-grandmother Queenie Means.Larry also had a close relationship with his paternal late grandmother, Lucille Gillespie and her family who were devoted to the Kingdom Hall Jehovah Witness which Larry also attended.
Larry graduated from Detroit Pershing High School. He was a founder and President of the very popular social club Chi Beta Kappa, better known as the CBK’s. The CBK “Boogie Bunch” was a club of young social event entrepreneurs. Larry planned numerous successful large-scale events hosted by CBK. In its time CBK was the #1 social club for young people in the City of Detroit.
Despite facing numerous challenges in his life, Larry’s faith in God never wavered. Larry's friend, Zachary, provided assistance for Larry to move into Josh Homecare. Tina Becker was Larry’s vigilant homecare provider while he was a resident. When Larry’s health took a turn that required him to reside in a nursing home, he moved to “The Orchards” at Canterbury-on-the-Lake in Waterford, Michigan. This was the same nursing home that his beloved mother, Marjorie Johnson, resided prior to her homegoing. Larry would not allow his physical limitations to hold him back while a resident at this nursing home. Everyone at The Orchards knew Larry and looked forward to spending time with him.He was well liked by the residents and staff.
Larry’s family were vigilant in visiting him weekly at The Orchards to make sure he was well taken care of and provided for all of Larry’s needs. As Larry’s health declined, his family remained attentive with daily visits, companionship, comfort, laughter, prayers, religious hospice, encouragement, and loving care.
On Friday, September 26, 2025, at the age of 72, Larry joined his ancestors. He peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to an eternal life in God’s Heavenly Kingdom with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit.
