Obituary for Thomas Lewis Jr.

Thomas Lewis, Jr. a much –loved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and Friend, 69 of Detroit, Michigan passed away on July22, 2015. He was born in Richmond, VA on August23, 1945 to Thomas Lewis, Sr. and Elmira Mildred (Crenshaw) Lewis, both who proceeded him in death. He grew up in Detroit along with his seven younger siblings and was educated in Detroit Public Schools. Thomas worked for Chrysler corporation starting at the age of 18, and he eventually worked his way to supervisor and retired in the mid 1990s after 29 years of service.

His greatest joy came from his service to Jehovah. At the young age of 14, Thomas formally dedicated his life to Jehovah on May27, 1960. He served as an elder in local congregations for 35years. In 1968, he met and married Clara B. Dixon of Memphis, Tennessee, who also preceded him in death in 2006. Together, they reared the children in accordance with Jehovah’s laws. He was always firm yet gentle, making sure that they understood the importance and protection of Jehovah’s organization.

Thomas was not just a father or brother to his fleshly family but also to his spiritual brothers and sisters. He would always say, “I’m just a phone call away.” He maintained a life in accord with the words at Galatians 5:22, 23 by making sure to always strive to display the “fruits of the spirit”. He cherished peace in his home and exercised self-control, kindness, goodness, patience, love and joy when dealing with anyone. Every ready with jokes or funny stories to tell; his smile and laughter were contagious.

He is survived by two daughters, Cassandra D. Lewis and Gabrielle R. Lewis and a son, Thomas (Danielle) Lewis III. Three grand daughters: Cierra R. Pamplin, Chanae A. Pamplin and Chelsey M. Pamplin. Five brother and two sisters: Leon Lewis, Victor (Barbara) Lewis, Linda Lewis, Ronald (Patricia), Lewis, Donald (Sharon) Lewis, Etheleen Smith and Michael Lewis, all of Detroit, Michigan; and a host of nieces and nephews.

His loyalty and faithfulness to his Creator, right down to the end of his life, epitomized the true Christian faith, setting an example worthy of imitation. Thomas will be greatly missed by his family, fleshly and spiritual, all of whom look forward to seeing him again after his resurrection in Paradise.
