Linwood Lee Evans Jr., affectionately known as “June,” was born on September 9, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Victoria and Linwood L. Evans. As the second of three children, June grew up surrounded by family, love, and the vibrant energy of the Motor City.
A proud graduate of Mackenzie High School, Linwood went on to attend the University of Michigan, completing a couple of quarters before life called him into the workforce. He was never one to sit still—his career spanned roles at General Motors, Ford Motor Company, security services, and countless other positions. Linwood kept it moving, always finding a way to contribute, connect, and keep things rolling.
But beyond his work ethic, Linwood was a man who truly lived. His greatest joy came from spending time with his beloved great-grandchildren, whom he lovingly nicknamed Papa, Mama, and Daddy Dog. From sunrise to sunset, they were his world—and when they were around, everyone else took a back seat.
Linwood was preceded in death by his parents, Linwood and Victoria Evans; his brother-in-law Reuben Robinson; uncles Fred, Luther, and Robert Evans; cousin Marion Hollis; and aunt Lula Wilson.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. Cherishing his memory are his daughter Niki Brown; granddaughters Kai Burks and M-Kayla McNeil; sister Clara Robinson of Flint, MI; brother John W. Evans (Charlene) of Detroit, MI; nephews LeRon L. Robinson of Flint, MI, John Evans Jr., Andrew Evans, and Douglas Evans of Detroit, MI; niece Lynette C.V. Robinson of Flint, MI; and great-nephew Sirius Evans of Detroit, MI.
Linwood’s village was vast and full of heart. He is also remembered fondly by Jacqueline Todd of St. Louis, MO; Luther (Marjorie) Evans of Flint, MI; Linda Evans and Gerald Henry of Detroit, MI; Patricia Lister and Erica Lax of South Bend, IN; and a host of cousins, friends, and loved ones whose lives he touched with his humor, warmth, and unwavering spirit.
Though Linwood has departed this life, his memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him. His story is one of movement, meaning, and deep devotion—and it will be carried forward with love.
