Felicia Brenda Love (the third of nine siblings) was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 12, 1956 to the union of Wilber and Areatha Love. She was educated in the Detroit Public Schools and went to Turner Elementary, Tappan Junior High, and Cass Tech High School. She left Cass in her junior year due to personal issues. She insisted on earning her diploma years later as an adult and subsequently completed several classes in computer information systems. Felicia worked several years for her mother’s commercial cleaning / maintenance company, AAA Maintenance before branching off to form her own personal business in residential cleaning, serving multiple families, mostly within the Jewish community, throughout the Metro area for over 40 years.
Being the oldest girl in the family, Felicia had the challenge of looking after and keeping in line four younger brothers and two younger sisters while mom and dad worked Monday through Saturday. She was seen as the mean big sister, but was actually a sweetheart and a very good sitter who put up with a lot from all of her siblings and their friends. She had a heart of gold and always cared deeply about every member of her immediate and extended family and their loved ones.
Felicia had a passion for sewing and making clothes, spending hours dressing and prepping to go out on dates, and listening to and collecting music from all genres. She accumulated hundreds of albums over the years of artists, including but not limited to Elton John, Earth Wind and Fire, Ohio Players, Barbara Streisand, David Bowie, Minnie Ripperton, Stevie Wonder, John Lennon, Gladys Night and the Pips, just to name a few. If they were good, she loved them! She was also very proud of maintaining her lifetime membership with Vic Tanny health club, which later became Bally Total Fitness, then LA Fitness. She was sure to never let her membership lapse and saw to it that LA Fitness honored her lifetime membership of nearly 40 years. While she loved going out with friends and on dates, all who knew her could attest that she never touched drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes. She lived a clean lifestyle and loved life.
Felicia accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a faithful member of God’s Inspirational Kingdom in Detroit from childhood until the early 90’s. She then found her permanent church home and family at Fellowship Chapel in Detroit under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony and remained a faithful member. She was a lifetime member of the NAACP and the Fannie Lou Hamer Political Action Committee and very dedicated to social justice, human rights, community engagement, and voting to support candidates endorsed by the PAC.
In the early 90’s after her mother suffered a major stroke, Felicia suffered a nervous breakdown and was eventually diagnosed with a psychological disorder. In spite of her reduced functionality, she continued to work and even drive for several years after her diagnosis. After the death of her mother in 1997, Felicia became more dependent on others for her daily needs and lived under the guardianship of her father and her brother Harold, with the help of other family members and friends. She insisted on living alone and maintaining control of her money and possessions. She became an insulin dependent diabetic in 2019, which was a major factor in her passing.
Felicia’s parents preceded her in death (Mom in 1997 and Dad in 2020). She leaves to cherish her memory, eight siblings; Fredrick Love, Patrick Love (Karen), Anita Love, Anthony (Lori)Love, Eric (Juel) Love, Harold (April) Love, Coulette Love (Rod), and Bruce (Gina) Love; one Uncle, William (Jackie) Boldin of Miami, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
