Obituary for
Patricia A. Mann
PATRICIA ANN was the seventh of eight children born to Minister Willie Slater, Sr. and Tecoria Slater on January 23, 1956 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Her father Willie, brothers Willie Jr., Albert & John Henry as well as her husband Columbus Mann Sr., preceded her in death.
Patricia (affectionately known as Pat or Ma Pat) was reared in a God-fearing, close knit home surrounded by loving siblings. As children they were always singing together weather they were at home or at church accompanying their father or pastor prior to a sermon. In her formative years, Pat was a member of Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Issac King Jr. This is where the foundation of her faith was laid and she received Christ.
Pat was an honor student in the Westwood Public School system. In January of 1974, she graduated a full semester ahead of her class from Hamilton J. Robichaud High School. Patricia particularly excelled in writing and in English and had a strong desire to expand her knowledge. As a result, she continued her education at Madonna College and took several additional courses during her academic career. Pat had an unparalleled work ethic. She joined the workforce at eighteen years old and worked for Sinai hospital for many years until Compuware absorbed her department. She maintained her employment with Compuware until her health challenges prevented her from continuing. In 2009, Compuware celebrated her for 35 years of dedicated service.
On December 7, 1974 Pat was joined in holy matrimony with Columbus Mann Sr. Two children were born to this union. Damon and Dion, and they were her pride and joy. She affectionately called them “my boys” and had unparalleled, unconditional love for them. They possessed a unique mother, son bond.
Pat enjoyed quiet evenings at home reading, along with collecting recipes and cookbooks. In more recent times she took great pride in caring for her mother along with her sisters. She would often times selflessly press her way despite her own obstacles as she often proclaimed “I want to do my part”. Pat took great joy in spending time with her family, especially when her grandchildren were with her.
Pat made her transition on Monday, August 15, 2016 at her home in Detroit. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted sons Damon Terrell Mann (Azurnette), and Dion TreVale Mann. She also leaves behind her beautiful mother Tecoria Slater as well as her loving sisters Dorothy Slater, Ernestine Teel, Joyce (Ira) McLin, Annette Slater, Valarie Dunakin and Debra Slater. In addition, her grandchildren Khayil, Kayla, Matthew, Manuel and Jayden as well as a host of relatives who will truly miss her, will forever cherish her loving memory.
