Marsha A. Sterrett

November 23, 1944 — February 23, 2025

On 11/23/1944, Marsha Ann Sterrett was born in Detroit Michigan to Ida and Clifton Sterrett, who preceded her in death. She was the third of seven children. The family lived in Royal Oak Township, until they moved to Detroit. Marsha was educated in the Royal Oak School District until graduating from Northwestern High School in Detroit. Marsha attended Wayne County Community County before becoming employed as U.S. Postal Worker. Marsha was a mail carrier for ten years. She was then hired by the Detroit Police Department and served as an officer until her retirement in 2009.

Marsha accepted Christ at an early age. She was member of New Light Baptist Church, under Rev. Cornel E. Talley; where she served in the Celestial Choir and the Adult Usher Board. Marsha later moved her membership to Hartford Memorial Baptist Church.

Marsha loved cooking for her family. Hearing them devour the food and talk about how good it was made her especially happy. Folks who were fortunate enough to taste her German chocolate cakes, deviled eggs and potato salad always commented that it was the best they had ever tasted. Marsha enjoyed watching all sports. She could be heard through the entire house yelling and rooting for her preferred team whenever they were playing. Marsha was an excellent bowler and loved traveling. She loved listening to jazz. She’d sing along whenever she heard Nancy Wilson. Her favorite R& B artists were The Whispers and Gladys Knight.

Marsha had one child. Her beloved Vincent Alexander Atmore. She loved spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren. Marsha was her mother’s (Ida Mae Sterrett) primary caregiver until her demise at 103 in April 9, 2024.

Marsha leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Vincent Atmore. She leaves three grandchildren Anniya, Aja and Vincent II. Her siblings, Brenda Jeter, Jesse Sterrett and Jeri Sterrett. Three brothers preceded her in death, Robert, John and Colvin Sterrett. Marsha leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to cherish her memory.
