Mary Esther Walker

Mary Esther Walker, daughter of the late Daniel Richard Tye and the late Nannie Pearl Tye, was born in Cincinnati, OH on May 4, 1934, and departed this life, on August 26, 2024, at the age of 90.

Mary was educated and grew up in Cincinnati with her 6 siblings. She got married on May 17, 1952 and moved to Detroit, Michigan one year later. She worked for 5 years, then spent the rest of her life as a housewife, raising their daughter and her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, doing crosswords, and spending time with family and friends. It was always said that she never met a stranger. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She touched the lives of so many people and will truly be missed.

She is preceded in death by her former husband, George W. Walker and her brother, Donald Tye. Her memory and legacy lives on with her daughter, Linda Barrett; five siblings, Patsy Jordan (Carlwell), Daniel Tye, Jr (Stephanie), Lee Ann Bennett, Barbara Grace, Dwayne Tye (Mary); two grandchildren LaMarr Barrett (Tamille) and LaDonna Vann; five great grandchildren Simone, Nia, Maia, Leila; and Brielle; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held on Friday, September 6th at James H Cole Home for Funerals, 2624 W Grand Blvd, Detroit, MI 48208 from 12 noon to 8 pm. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 14th at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 3101 Riverside Dr, Cincinnati, OH 45226. Viewing begins at 9 am followed by the Funeral Service at 10:30 am.
