The Obituary
Emory Harold McCants Sr. was born to the Joseph McCants Sr. and Abria Belcher on February 23, 1931 in Detroit, MI.
Emory better known as “Sonny” attended the Detroit Public School System.
He joined the U.S. Army on August 17, 1951. Sonny was a war hero who was awarded the Bronze Star. He received an honorable discharge on May 19, 1953
He worked at General Motors (GM) for 32 years, until he retired. He truly enjoyed reading the Bible.
He met Shirley Terrell in 1960 and they had a wonderful son, Emory Jr. in 1963.
Sonny departed this life on Monday, October 25, 2011 at 3:30AM at Sinai – Grace Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Abria McCants, three sisters, Delores, Marie and Brenda and three brothers, Joseph Jr. Walter Sr. and Donald.
Sonny leaves to mourn in his passing, his devoted son Emory Jr. Shirley Terrell, Jerome, Ronnie and Mattie. His brother, Kermit (Theresa), one sister –in-law Angela McCants. Also, his close friend Marie Smith and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
